About Ruth Green

Hi there.  So glad for the chance to tell you more about myself and Graceful Birthing.  I have been active in the field of birth work for over 25 years beginning with my husband and I serving as houseparents at a Philadelphia based maternity home in 1992.  As our family began to grow via home and hospital births, friends and family members became interested in having me attend their births or they sought me out for advice on pregnancy and birth related topics.  This spurred me on to expand upon my own personal and professional research which eventually grew into establishing myself as the business owner of Graceful Birthing of Virginia.

I am a trained professional birth and postpartum doula serving Richmond and  Farmville. I am a married Christian mother of 13 hospital and home-birthed children. I have experience working with midwives and doctors in both home and hospital settings since 1992.

As a result of my own personal study and professional training, I can offer my clients knowledge, encouragement, education, and support through their birth experience and beyond. As a Christian, I firmly believe pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting to be tremendous blessings bestowed upon us and, as such, should be approached with an utter reliance on God’s grace to strengthen us for the task. I assist my clients with both practical helps and faith-based prayer support.

“Something we especially appreciated was the thinking ahead attitude she had during the birth…freeing me up to simply labor!
I hardly had to ask for anything, and it was already there for me to use (this includes rewarming those glorious heating pads that help SO very much with back labor).”
