Richmond Area Postpartum
Doula Services
Breaking news! In light of the present Covid situation, all postpartum services are being offered in person as well as virtually. Choose the option that is best suited to meet your needs.
Expectant couples pay close attention to their preparation during the prenatal period carefully researching their options of care providers, birth plans, birth doulas, childbirth prep classes, and making choices to ensure a satisfying birth experience. But too often they overlook the postpartum season as also requiring a plan of action in order to ensure a smooth transition into that special season.
The initial postpartum days can be extremely challenging to say the least. Between healing physically from your delivery, fluctuating hormones, sleep deprivation, and the emotional ups and downs familiar to the newly delivered couple, the postpartum family is especially vulnerable. The reassuring presence of an experienced and compassionate postpartum doula can mean all the difference in the world.
Our postpartum recovery team fills that void left once your provider is no longer on the scene and you’re on your own with your baby. We’re highly educated and experienced in newborn care and the specific nuances of postpartum recovery. Think of us a cross between a supportive friend and an executive assistant dedicated to completing your every need and keeping track of the details that are most important to you. We help your newly delivered family stay afloat and find that perfect balance so you can enjoy those moments of peace and bonding so necessary to the newborn season.
Day or night you can count on our postpartum team to be available for your every need. Our postpartum doulas are more than just night nannies. While the role of a night nanny is solely to care for your newborn our Postpartum Doula support is for the entire family. While swaddling, feeding, bathing, or changing baby can be especially helpful to Mom and Dad we’re also happy to perform many other tasks such as light housekeeping, sibling care, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, pet care, etc.
Your Postpartum Doula can also be of assistance in the following areas:
Infant Feeding Plan – we will support you in setting up a feeding routine that suits your parenting style and your baby’s needs, whether that be breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or both.
Tongue Tie/Frenenctomy – should your baby need intervention for a tongue tie our team of doulas can support you before, during, and after the entire process.
Daily Schedules & Routines – we’re available to help you as you devise the sleep, play and feeding patterns that best reflect the goals you have established for your home.
Referrals – should your family require additional services that are outside of our scope of practice we’re able to provide you the referrals needed to make a smooth connection to the proper professional.
Establishing Healthy Sleep Cycles – we’re highly trained in normal newborn sleep patterns and can help the family establish healthy sleep routines. We’ll help you find the sleep designs that are ideal for your family.
Breastfeeding Assistance – your postpartum doula is thoroughly trained to support moms along their breastfeeding journey. They can trouble shoot in the following areas: latch issues, positioning suggestions, sore nipples, low milk supply, engorgement, let-down reflex, inverted nipples, etc. They are also familiar with the symptoms of common breastfeeding challenges such as mastitis and plugged milk ducts and can recommend solutions to get you and your baby back on track.
Postpartum Depression Identification – our postpartum doulas are highly trained in all areas pertaining to post-delivery and can offer assistance in identifying the signs and symptoms of baby blues or postpartum depression. We can help parents as they determine a course of action should circumstances require outside attention that is beyond our level of expertise.

Postpartum Belly Binding
The Bengkung style of belly binding is specific to the Malaysian culture. Belly binding is an ancient tradition of many eastern cultures that involves using special knots to tie a long strip of cloth around the abdomen – sometimes after applying an herbal paste or essential oils to the abdomen – during the postpartum recovery period to support a woman’s uterus and other organs after childbirth. Belly Binding Service: includes 3 in-home private sessions where we will apply the warming oils and bind the postpartum mother. On the final session I will offer tips on self-binding so the practice can be continued ~ $225
